Welcome to the Modern Swing Community Wiki!
Check out “Thinking in public” for West Coast Swing for a general introduction to the forum.
Here is some example information that this wiki looks to collect:
- lists and explanations of useful concepts and skills
- for example - a relatively simple concept of Lead Projection has almost no information about it online
- Drills
- what do they help you develop
- how many people find a particular drill useful?
- what is a good order to do them in
- Wiki pages for Pro dancers
- Tips and lore for conventions:
- Shoes and shoe tips
Note that these are just examples and generally any information that you think would be helpful for or interesting to the Westie community, would be a good fit.
Here are some things I'd like to cover/for other people to cover (in no particular order):
- Musicality
- Counting music in 2 beat increments
- Phrasing
- Call and response
- Extending patterns
- Personal Movement
- Connection
- Meta-learning
- What does a reasonable skill progression look like?
- Primer on analyzing your own videos
- Misc
- Difference between delayed double and a hitch
Note: for some of these - there is already good material available online, in which case assembling a set of references (and maybe providing scaffolding around them) should work well.
Also some topics here (like video analysis) may work better as a forum post and others would work better as wiki entries, lean towards creating a forum post when in doubt!
